Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens)

Background: Serenoa repens is the medical name for the herb saw palmetto. Some studies have shown that saw palmetto may have the same effect as the drug finasteride in treating benign prostate enlargement diseases. It has been suggested that both hair loss and prostate disease may be related to the hormone DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) which is formed when the enzyme 5-alpha reductase interacts with the male hormone testosterone .

Even if there are numerous studies that shows the effectiveness of Serenoa Repens in treating prostate enlargement diseases, there are no studies about it’s use in androgenetic alopecia and the fact that it really lowers DHT is contradictory, some studies proves that it inhibit DHT and other that do not .

Recomended dosage : up to 400 mg a day.
